Buon giorno. I1 Signore desidera?

Don Smith:

Vorrei un chilo di pane casalingo e due filoni di lusso, per favore.

Fornaio:

Va bene. È tutto?

Don Smith:

No. Mi dia anche sei panini e sei cornetti.

Fornaio:

Vuole qualcos'altro?

Don Smith:

Vorrei delle paste assortite.

Fornaio:

Queste qui?

Don Smith:

Si. E mi dia anche due di quelle lì.

Fornaio:

Ecco tutto.

Don Smith:

Quanto devo?

Fornaio:

3.750 lire. Grazie.

 

Translation:

Baker:

Good morning. May I help you?

Don Smith:

I'd like a kilo of coarse white bread and two loaves of bread, please.

Baker:

All right. Is that all?

Don Smith:

No. Also give me six rolls and six croissants.

Baker:

Do you wish something else?

Don Smith:

I'd like some assorted pastries.

Baker:

These here?

Don Smith:

Yes. And give me two of those there also.

Baker:

Here is everything.

Don Smith:

How much do I owe you?

Baker:

3,750 lire. Thank you.


 



Notes on conversation

1. Il Signore desidera literally means, "The gentleman wishes?"

2. Un pane casalingo. A coarse white bread made of unbleached flour. It comes in different shapes and weights.

3. Filoni di lusso resembles the sweet French bread with a shiny crust that is sold in stores in the United States.

4. Cornetti or croissant. Italians use both words.
