Commessa:

Buon giorno, Signore. In che posso servirLa?

Don Smith:

Vorrei una camicia bianca.

Commessa:

Abbiamo una grande scelta laggiù. Venga da questa parte. Che taglia porta?

Don Smith:

40 o 41, credo.

Commessa:

Ecco una 41.

Don Smith:

Si, penso che vada bene. Ah, vorrei anche una cravatta blu ed un paio di calzini neri.

Commessa:

Le cravatte sono lì. Scelga, pure.

Don Smith:

Questa è troppo chiara. Quella lì credo che vada molto bene.

 

Translation:

Salesperson:

Good morning, sir. How can I help you?

Don Smith:

I would like a white dress shirt.

Salesperson:

We have a large selection over there. Come this way. What size do you wear?

Don Smith:

40 or 41, I believe.

Salesperson:

Here is a 41.

Don Smith:

Yes, I think it will be OK. Oh, I'd also like a blue tie and a pair of black socks.

Salesperson:

The ties are there. Choose, if you please.

Don Smith:

This one is too light. That one there I believe will do very well.


 



Notes on conversation

1. In Italian, (io) penso or (io) credo must be followed by che and the subjunctive form of the verb.

2. Pure is also used idiomatically as in the conversation to mean "please do, certainly, of course, by all means."
